The Bachelor's Programs of the CFA
The CFA has been awarding Bachelor’s degrees in finance and accounting for decades. Most of our graduates embark on careers in the accounting and financial professions, including work for large multinational companies and big accounting firms. We especially take pride in the success of some of our alumni who now occupy prestigeous positions in the rapidly developing Hungarian business community. The three BSc programs of the CFA (and all the other BSc programs of the other two colleges constituting the Budapest Business School) start with common core modules in the first three semesters. These modules include the following courses: Business Mathematics, Operation Research, Statistics, Information Technology in the Methodology Module; Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, Introduction to Finance in the Economics Modules; students in the first three semesters can also choose courses from a wide range of electives and free options, such as Environmental Management, Economic Geography, Economic Policy, EU policies, History of the Economy, Regional Economics, Political Science, Sociology, and Psychology. Students will also be supposed to take courses in business studies, such as Introduction to Business Law, Introduction to Business Administration, Introduction to Management, Introduction to Marketing, Taxation and Subsidies, Introduction to Accounting, Introduction to Human Resource Management, Introduction to Corporate Finance, IT Applications, Business Communication, and Business Informatics. The students then start taking increasingly specialised courses related to their chosen specialisation. With the exception of the Human Resource Management program, the BSc programs are seven-semester programs, the seventh semester is spent in internship and is also dedicated to writing a dissertation, which must be presented at the final examination. 1. The Finance and Accounting Program This is a 7-semester program which provides students with solid theoretical and practical knowledge; it also endows them with skills and competencies that enable them to operate the financial systems of businesses and other organisations. Having obtained their BSC degree in Finance and Accounting, graduates will be able to perform accounting tasks, to set up and develop accounting systems by utilising IT applications, observe reporting requirements, operate the systems of cost management, analyse, evaluate and control management. In particular, they will be able to make or assess financial plans and projects, prepare and assess loan applications, prepare a balance sheet or other financial reports, draw up and prepare tax returns, analyse the financial accounts, deal with issues concerning social insurance, taxation, customs and excise, and other financial or accounting problems. They will also be able to work independently and in teams, and – using good negotiation and presentation techniques – persuasively discuss business issues. The program has two specialisations: Finance or Accounting. Having obtained a BSc degree in Finance and Accounting, students will be able to continue their studies at Master’s level in any other business program. Students in the first three semesters of their studies take the common core modules described above. From the third semester, they have to take courses in Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Methods of Business Analysis, Complex Analysis, Business Planning, Taxation, Corporate Finance, Financial Simulation, Banking, Introduction to Public Finance, Money and Capital Markets, and Financial and Accounting IT. The program also includes courses in Controlling/Auditing, Consolidated Accounts, and EU Finances. The Finance Specialisation includes courses in Insurance and Social Insurance, International Payments, Risk Management, Tax Management, and Financing Public Operations. Students can choose from these electives: Duties and Customs, Non-Profit Finances, Finances of Local Governments, IT in Financial Planning, Business Game, Financing Agricultural Ventures, Economic Modelling, and Bank Management. The Accounting Specialisation offers courses in Efficiency Analysis, Introduction to Auditing, Specific Accounting Problems, International Accounting, and Business Valuation; and electives in Logistics, Non-profit Accounting, Specific Analysis Problems, Valuation, Accounting Expert Systems, Quality Management, and Economic Modelling. 2. The Business Administration Program This is a 7-semester practice-oriented program which enables graduates to work in a wide range of jobs related to business administration and management. It is a program which develops competencies necessary to address various tasks connected with business administration and management. After obtaining their BSc degrees, students of the Business Administration program will be able to plan and analyse the processes of business organisations and institutions as well as manage and organise business activities and processes. Graduates will have the necessary skills and competencies to take up various positions related to business administration in businesses and other organisations; perform tasks independently or in teams in various parts of the company system; and also perform managerial tasks related to general management of these organisations. They will be able to apply problem-solving techniques in decision-making at their company; to communicate effectively in the domestic and international business environment; and to adapt to the changes of environment. Students can also specialise in one of these fields of business administration: Business Information Systems or Statistics for Business Management. After obtaining their BSc degrees in Business Administration, students will able to continue their studies at Master’s level in different programs or specialisations of business studies. Students in the first three semesters of the program will have to take the common core modules described above. From the third semester, they will start studying the modules of Business Administration, such as Bookkeeping, Management Accounting, Corporate Finance, Taxation, Entrepreneurship, Strategic and Business Planning, Operations Management, Marketing Strategies, Business Risk Management, Business Information Systems, Administration Technology and Elements of Business Law. They will also have to take courses in EU Regulations, Project Writing, Controlling/Auditing, Project Management, Business Software Packages, Efficiency Analysis, Logistics, and Decision-making. They can also choose from electives, such as Introduction to E-business , International Enterprises, Securities Markets, Business Valuation, Human Resource Management, Specific Accounting Problems, and a Business Game. The Business Information Systems Specialisation includes courses like Computer Networks, Object Oriented IS Planning, Project Management, and Management Information Systems; and student will be offered electives such as Computer Programming, Data and Virus Protection, Data Mining, Auditing Information Systems , Specific Accounting Problems, Computer-Aided Production, and Business Management Software Packages. The Statistical Analysis for Business Administration Specialisation offers special courses in Interpreting Financial Statements, Business Statistics, Socio-Statistics, Data Mining, and Business Information Systems; and electives such as Auditing Information Systems, Statistics for Business Decision-Making, Business Case Studies, Special Accounting Problems, Data Analysis with Multiple Variables, and Business Management Software Packages. 3. The Human Resource Management Program This is a 6-semester program which is designed to enable graduates to work in a wide range of jobs related to HR activities. It is a practice-oriented program which develops competencies necessary to address various tasks connected with the development and utilisation of human resources in businesses and other organizations and companies. They will be able to perform work individually and in teams, discuss professional topics based on business considerations and calculations; reliably perform work in a multicultural environment; provide support for managers; prepare analyses of the labour market; study HRM functions; and address service tasks in HR. Students are supposed to take courses in Labour Law, Labour Economics, Organisational Behaviour, Applied HRM, Management Competencies., Management Accounting, Controlling and Management Auditing, EU Labour Policies, and HRM Informatics. For further specialisation, they can take courses in Accounting for HRM, Controlling for HRM, Audit and Control, Organisational Development, Project Writing, Project Management, and EU HRM Strategies. They can also choose from electives, such as Organisation of HRM, HRM audit, eHRM, Benchmarking, and Organisational and Labour Psychology. Students obtaining a BSc degree in HRM will be able to continue their studies at Master’s level in the different specialisations of business management. The Finance and Accounting Program and the Business Administration Program is also offered in English!
